Video streaming services are growing in popularity at an amazing rate. Recode, a popular tech news, reviews, and analysis website, posted an article saying “Netflix has a huge audience; by the end of the first quarter of 2017, Netflix had a total of 94 million paying streaming subscribers.”

Phoenix resident, Yadira Lucero cut her cable and changed to streaming.

“I switched because many family members of mine made the switch before me, and when I saw the amazing services provided, I decided to switch,” she said. “But it was also my children who peer pressured me into subscribing.”

It’s estimated 22 million U.S. adults had already cut their cable by the end of 2017. Netflix is the largest, most popular streaming service with 75% of all streaming service viewers.

“I think (streaming’s) great because it’s there for you anytime,” Roman Gallegos, a Sophomore at South Mountain High School, said. “Being able to take streaming services almost anywhere and sign in on almost any device is also an advantage they have over TV subscriptions.”

“I would recommend people switch to streaming services, because you can watch whatever you want, when you want,” Lucero agreed.

Netflix isn’t the only big streaming service, there are also others, such as, HBO Now, Hulu, Amazon Video, Playstation Vue, and DirecTV Now.

As Netflix continues to grow, so does the cost. The charge is now $15 a month compared to the previous $12.

The question is, will you make the switch?
